helper's rights

My partner is a driver here in HK. He just started working as a live out driver for a new family on the Peak. His contract says his hours are 8am-6pm, six days a week. But the family expect him to work at least two hours overtime every night, taking the kids to various activities, without any overtime pay, and they still insist he stays till 6 on Saturday even when there is nothing for him to do. He has just started working for them and doesn't want to rock the boat, but I think they are treating him unfairly.Surely they knew before they hired him that they would want him to ferry the kids backwards and forwards at those sorts of times. I have to say, had I known he would be working twelve hours a day I never would have encouraged him to sign the contract. I am getting very frustrated becuase it means we can't plan anything, dinner with friends or a movie, becuase we are never sure what time he is going to be free. Any advice? Does anyone know what his rights are?

Thanks

Amanda

Agree with jbebeb, well I work 12 to 13 hrs almost everyday, according to the letter agreement we sign in 9 hrs a day but because I needed the job then i do it without being paid for the extra time.Sometimes I also come back to work on the weekend (Satuday)thats without being paid as well.My point is that as long as my company treated me good and paid me well then theres no reason to complain in fact if they will recognized your hardworking they may give extra bunos.:)

THanks to everyone who replied. My partner finally talked to his employer about the situation. They said they thought that he had agreed to work until 7.30pm everyday and they would discuss it. However, since then he has been told he can go just after six more or less every day so we are much happier.
