A silly question

Once you've purchased an airticket for your DH, do you give to her right away? She wanted a photocopy of it at least - something about needing it to do her tax here. What's that?

This ticket is a free gift from me to her (to Manila). She said she needed to renew her visa in September this year....

I'm just so confused with everything....

Do I need to do anything else for her? Like write a letter to say that I'm giving her a holiday?

She said it's tax whenever they leave the country. She's only started working with me last April so I think her contract only finishes next April 2007. However there is another page whic says that she is permitted to remain until 26 October 2006. It's so weird. So if she's supposed to be here for 2 years, how come her visa is only until October?

MayC,

I think you may be refering to HK immigration stamps in her passport; go and ask Immigration directly at the counter in Immigration Tower they are very helpfull. And there is no HK tax for exiting however its common for the DH own country.

did she already work here inhong kong before you got her to work fo ryou..that is the only reason i can see her visa expire....cause if she already finished a contract here prior to taking her job with you..she can only stay one more year..she must leave and come back....to continue work with you....since she did not take the two weeks off after her first contract..

you only payfor one return ticket.....

thats it...i guess

Check your helper's passport expiry. I think Philippine's passport is valid only for 3 years. If the passport is expiring in the middle of the contract, the immigration department only gives permit to stay here 1 month prior to the expiry. If that is the case, you need to

1. Have your helper renew the passport at the consulate - takes 5 days or so and they are open on Sundays. Forms can be downloaded from the consulate website and it costs about HKD430.

2. With new passport, contract (existing), letter of confirmation stating that you are still her employer, have her go to the immigration dept and fill in visa extension form. This can be done within the same day and costs HKD135 or so.

I had my helper renew her passport 1 month before the visa expiry (2 month before passport expiry) and everything was taken care of without having to leave Hong Kong. I do not know who is responsible for the cost, but we paid the whole thing.

Hi, May C

I think you're a good employer. I suggest that you enquire at the Immigration Department regarding your helper's visa. As far as I know, though the contract is for 2 years the Immigration will only issue a 1 year visa and need the helper to exit after a year. Either she'll go back home or exit in China or Macau. This would work.

For the ticket back home, I think it is your responsibility to give her a free ticket. You can check that for yourself but am pretty sure of it.

Don't worry

I think what MayC's helper refering to is the travel tax and the terminal fee she have to pay when she comes back here in HK from her vacation, but normally DH who goes back in Philippines will get that so called OEC (overseas employment certificate) before they goes back home, I am not so sure if when they go get one in the Philippine Consulate they need the ticket copy, but for sure they need her passport.

yes TC if the DH have the OEC she dont have to pay the tax and terminal fee, everything is free. And Oec is think cost around 50HK$ or less.
