Just wondering... if I was to take a 3 week vacation with my kids and hubbie.... not bringing the helper. What would be the arrangement? What is she supposed to do during the 3 weeks at home by herself? How much money to leave her for food and emergency?
Does the helper still get full salary ?

Of course the helper gets full salary for the time you are away, she can do the things that can't be done normally - take down all the light fittings and wash them, pull all the beds out and clean under neath them, pull out the kitchen copboards and clean the shelves, pull out the fridge and clean under that, air the matresses on all the bed (flip them over). Defrost the freezer and clean the fridge and freezer, mend any clothes that are outstanding.
Of course there won't be as much to do as if you were there, but that is your choice to go on holiday - not hers. $300 a month is what is the legal limit is for the money, you could give her that. or you could send her home for a 3 week holiday to her homeland - I am sure she would appreciate that!

We also sent our helper on some cooking and first aid courses whilst we were away on holiday.

Our helper decided to go back to the Philippines while we were on vacation for ten days. This worked out fine and was unpaid as she had just had paid leave four months prior.

I made a list to do for her when we are away for holiday,I make sure that the frigde had enough food for her and left her few hundred dollors just in case.
