Am I asking too much from PT helper?

Hi, thanks for looking at this.

I live in a small place around 465 sq. feet and have someone coming once a week for three hours. She cleans bathroom, kitchen, floors, and bedroom. Does ironing, changes bedsheets, and usually a load of wash. At times she may have one or two things to handwash. I also ask her to cook something, but haven't done that lately.

She doesn't do a great job of cleaning, doesn't put things back in proper place in the bathroom, recently when I had a shirt that has a roll up sleeve with a button that keeps it there she didn't undo the button and then wash. One time I noticed she didn't clean the toilet. Many times she doesn't clean the two small shelves in the bathroom. Taken individually I wouldn't mind some of the things, but taken as a whole I'm thinking of starting to do these things on my own or hiring someone else. Am I asking too much? I live on the fourth floor of an walk up. The washer and dryer is on the sixth floor. She says that doing the laundry takes a lot of time and therefore cannot cook. But I'm thinking does cleaning and such take more than 3 hours? What do you think?

Thanks

Three hours is not enough to do the cooking in my opinion. You should expect better quality work but you are pushing it in terms of quantity. I would be interested in other responses though.

I also do not think 3 hours is not enough to do all you are asking even though the flat is small. Laundry and ironing take quite a long time. As for her forgetting routine work, I suggest you give her a detailed list of things you want her to clean to ensure that she does not forget any.

Thank you for the responses. I, too, think cooking on top of that is a bit much, but when I see the quality of work I get disappointed. Nevertheless, I will try to be more detailed in my requests. Again thank you

You may want to try someone else. I had several part time before my full time helper was able to start the work and found each very different in terms of qality of their work. Try others until you find one you are statisfied with.

Hi thanks for the insight. I think your idea of trying it out myself is great. By the way, she doesn't clean the fridge, microwave and such. She only washes dishes only a few I don't like to leave them in the sink, wipes down stove and counter and cleans the floor. My bathroom doesn't have a full sized bathtub. I can't even take a bath in it since its so small. I noticed that she doesn't wipe down the shower door. I do most of the laundry so she only washes the bed linens. I don't expect the laundry to get done so that is why I do it so that she can iron about three pants and two shirts. I don't have much beyond that.
