We would like some ideas on what to give/offer our helper for her birthday. She has been with us for a month and really appreciate her help.
Thanks

Wow ~ you're buying a birthday gift for a helper who's only been with you a month ~ that's generous. If it were me, I'd probably only send a card. If you really want to get a gift, however, what about a 1lb cake from a local bakery? It's cheap, appropriate and many helpers have a sweet tooth.

I usually get a birthday cake and $ 300 as present.

What about buying her $100 worth of phone cards for calling home? Or a nice, inexpensive bag? or even an extra half-day off on her actual birthday?

I gave mine $100 for a phone card (I actually gave her cash in a card, but with a note that it was for that reason - I had no idea what card she would buy normally). Same at her New Year, last week.

i have been with my boss for almost a year but they didnt even greet me on my bday. well not that i mind but it would be nice to be greeted by them. but they dont give that much importance on bdays.

My feeling about gifts is that they are gifts. "A thing given willingly to someone without payment." To me you should give something that you think will be desired and then forget what happens to it. Just because a helper sends it home shouldn't change your decision to give. The cake may well be eaten on Sunday with a church group. It is theirs to do with what they want. Let it be.

We bought our helper 2 tickets to Disneyland, although she has been with us for 1 1/2 years. Slightly different and a great idea.
