Should I pay expenses for DH coming for interview?

I interviewed a DH this past weekend and gave her money to cover her travelling expenses. This was my gesture / idea, not hers. My current helper was astonished when I told her and said there was no need to do this. What is the protocol for this? What has anyone else done in the past?

I did pay the ferry fee for a helper that I had already hired, but who had not yet completed her visa application. She came out to get some visa documents signed. We interviewed dozens of helpers most didn't come to our island just interviewed in central, but even those unsuccessful applicants that came our were not reimbursed. To me it is the costs one has to pay to get an interview.

I wouldn't think it would be any different than any of us going for a job interview. The company interviewing you certainly doesn't pay you back whatever transportation costs you incurred right?

I have never done it, but it is a nice idea. A few dollars is hardly going to break the bank for us, but they must appreciate it. Will try to remember to do so in future. I have been reimbursed for interview expenses in the past, but those tended to involve a flight.

I think there will always be those who as extra generous, and those who are extra stingy.... in whatever situations. However, I definitely KNOW that one does NOT expect transportation reimbursement for a job interview with a helper. She is COMING for an possible opportunity for a job that will be paying her income. The transportation expenses is the LEAST she can commit to show her sincerity in looking for a job. I think the only exception would be if the interview was conducted somewhere really far or secluded where no public transportation is possible, must taxi or something... then yes, I think reimbursement would be expected.
