FYI: we had over 600 helpers register with us last month... many of the agencies out there actually come to our site to find candidates for their clients so if you use an outside agency the odds are they will simply be sending you candidates from our site...

The reason we launched our agency service is because we were dismayed with the business practices of many agencies in HK - they often take advantage of the helpers overcharging them...

As you can see from our main DH page we charge the helpers NOTHING. And we also give employers a great deal...

but i was also told that many DH from asiaxpat made up their own referral letter. i myself was personally conned by some of the DH i found in asiaxpat.

Miss Muffet ~

If you can avoid using an agency, I would strongly advise you to do that. I have also been conned by a helper I found on the Asia Expat website - I hired her and it turned out she'd made up her reference letter. After 6 months, she started stealing from my family.

I'm using Emry's at the moment to hire a replacement and they've been awful. I won't repeat what I've put in my other posts, however.

I just think agencies are trouble. If you can do it on your own, that is definitely your best option. It is troublesome, but the agencies are worse.

Many agencies boast that they charge the helpers nothing or very little. However, is that what you really want? Personally, I want to hear about an agency that's looking out for me, the employer.

The one advantage AsiaExpat does have is that you can contact the helpers directly and interview them yourself. If you like them, you can hire them without paying an agency fee (get the DH to do all the legwork).

But do check the references properly. I'd estimate more than two thirds are faked. If there's no phone number for you to call that works, no bonus points for guessing why not.

Thanks for the replies. When u say that they make up their own referal letter on asiaxpat, does that mean they can type it themselves when they advertise?,'cause I've read some extremely good referals.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. They type it in themselves, totally made up. Of course, not all are false, but I believe the majority by far are.

dont trust all the referals that you read. the better they sound, the more you should be aware of and asked for the previous employers numbers so that you can call and clarify. but most importantly, trust your instinct.
