Cash Salary

My new DH has requested her salary in cash, as she doesn't want or have bank account and sends most of her salary back to Sri Lanka every month.

From an employers prospective cheque or direct transfer is better because it gives a double paper trail in case of salary dispute.

Anybody run into this situation before?

My last helper was Sri Lankan and did the same. It was no trouble at all for us - just get her to sign that she has received each month's salary.

My Filipina maid who worked in HK for 6 years before I employed her requested salary in cash claiming the same reasons. Most banks also require their customers to maintain a minimum balance to avoid bank charges.

However, HSBC has a passbook savings account called Easy Savings Account that does not require maintenance of a minimum balance. They charge HKD 20.00 for each bank counter service transaction. But, they also provide a free ATM card and withdrawals from the bank account through ATM machines are free of charge. This account is ideal for employers who wish to make online or ATM transfers to their DM.

If you write her a cheque, your DM will have to pay HKD 20.00 every time she deposits it at the counter.

Check it out with HSBC.

We decided to give bearers cheques in her name. That way she can go cash the cheque with no charge, but we still have the double paper trail and a cheque number connected to the pay reciept.

We've always paid our helpers cash, it has never been a problem.

Most regular employees cannot "demand" how salaries are paid, so I think if you as employer prefer and feel safe having a paper trail of her salary, then give her a check payment for her to encash monthly
