i have all along look after my son on my own until last month when i had a helper. initial reaction i got is that my son hated her because he never wanted her and cried each time she come near him. we nearly terminate her thinking that our son hate her so what's the point because the purpose we have the helper is for my son's sake. anyway, we decided that it's too early to draw a conclusion since it's only been a few weeks. we decided to wait and see what happened. and now, i must say my son is liking her more and more and i am getting jealous!! so, just give your helper some time. it may be too early to come to a conclusion now. that's my experience.

The child age is importment. At some stage of development, the child may just fear any stranger except the care taker.
Apart from the above consideration, children usually have sharp instinct. May be the DH is really not suitable for the child.

A crying son, and a crying dog? Crying is not a sign of hating. In babies or young children, its a sign of discomfort, and/or pain. It maybe that the maid's physical aura isn't too comforting to the son, and the dog's sight. It may have reminded them of some experiences in the past that have caused them pain, or discomfort, thus, react by means of crying.
