My wife and I have lived in HK for four years now, and I can safely say that we have experienced nothing here as complicated as hiring a domestic helper. We have interviewed and signed contracts with a helper who has a HK ID, has worked here since 1993 and is currently back in the Philippines - she was here on a tourist visa when we interviewed her. The Philippines Consulate refused to process our application, saying that we need a 'Ticket Exchange Voucher'. There appears to be no problem with her not being registered with an agency, which conflicts with a lot of the information I have read on this site. What I cannot ascertain (from anywhere or anyone) is what happens if we buy this 'Ticket Exchange Voucher' (and does anyone know where we might actually get one of these?) and for some reason her visa application is not accepted. Is this just an [expensive] risk that you take? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

You only have to use an agency if the FDH hasn't worked in HK before, if they have you can do the process yourself. As I understand it, they cannot go ahead with their application to come here unless they have a ticket already, so maybe a ticket exchange voucher is something similar that applies to FDH already here.

If you've been here for 4 years I'm sure you'd know that the FDH process is NOT the most complicated process in HK. Not even close to it, methinks.

I have not been through what huddinhk is going thru at present, it sure sounds pretty & in fact ' most'complicated to me.
He/ She has asked for advise & help....if you cannot give it, go somewhere where you can....

Thankyou for your various replies. I spoke with the DH (in the Philippines) yesterday and she seemed to think the same as Pinkstone re: the TEV. She also recommended a travel agency - MANNINGS TRAVEL AGENCY, for buying one. I don't know if anyone who's used them could comment on their service?

There are many complicated processes in HK - some of which are far more complicated than this, I'm sure. This is more than challenging enough for me though, at the moment!
