Just wondering if anyone has any idea what happens in such a situation. I helped a close friend to find a trustworthy, and experienced DH from Philippines through my own DH. My DH personally guaranteed this cousin of hers is good for my friend's family. I believed her.
The DH has arrived, after 3 days of arrival at my friend's household, one day was Sunday (holiday). My friend said she's ready to fire her DH. She feels she cannot trust her with her 2 year old child, and she feels she might steal from her household. I am very angry at my friend because I feel there is no way this DH has been given the chance at all. But her mind is made up. She asked me whether I knew what the procedure was. Just send her home with an air ticket?
I think it cannot be possible ?! How about the rights of this helper? She paid agency fee too .... and does she get the 1 month salary compensation?
Does my friend have any bad record for doing this ?
I feel like I ruined this DH's life..... sigh.

But the cold hard fact is that she can terminate her helper at any time - just as the helper can resign at any time. There are contractual obligations to be met, though, such as working a one-month notice period or the employer paying out for that period. The following link contains a lot of information in that area (Chapter 7):

meiji, before your friend hire a helper what went through her brain? Commomn! she's just three days! If your friend is working and she just started working and in three days her boss will say Oh! by the way i can not trust you with your position in this job and I think you are going to steal some paper clips and bond papers and stealing by using your work time to call your helper and see what she is doing ,if your baby is still alive, or what is she doing etc...etc...etc.. Let me tell you she does not deserve to have ahelper specially a good one with that kind of heart the she has.

You need to hear both sides of the story before you pass judgement on either of them. If this girl really hasn't been given a chance to shine then that's unfair. However if a helper is terrible you can pretty much see it on the first day. Just becuase your DH says her cousin is great doesn't mean she is. I am yet to find a helper who won't say "yes" that they can do everything to get the job they want.

your friend can't fire her helper if her reason does not fall from the list given by the labour department, its there at the link TC posted. But if she really wants to fire her helper, she have to give her one month notice. By the way, how old is the girl from Philippines?

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. The conclusion of this story is... she got fired. My friend did compensate her with 1 month salary, and the air ticket. The helper cried and cried. And now hoping to find a new employer in the next 2 weeks. Very Sad.

No employer in their right mind waits through the period of getting a new DH & then fires her in 3 days.
There should be more to it. Like Mrs Miggins wrote, hear both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions.
I can safely say I have had maid problems & always knew from day one if they would stay or go. My last DH thought DH work was too low for her, however she wanted the salary to start her own business eventually. Guess I was evil to finally let her go after going through 7 months of torture with her. Wish I sacked her on her 3rd day instead.
