cost and flexibility

Hi, was wondering what the going rate for domestic help is per month? Is there a flexible arrangement that can be entered into i.e 2 or 3 days per week set hrs each day? Does a contract need to be formed or can help be sought on a 'when you need' basis? Is it better through an agency or privately? Thanks

Assuming you are in HK - if you are thinking of a foreign domestic helper (i.e. one who does not have permanent residency) then there is only one legal option - full-time and live-in and a minimum monthly wage of $3,400 (or thereabouts). OK, so the Immigration Dept occasionally gives permission for the helper to live out in special circumstances, and that would mean you having to pay for suitable accommodation for the helper. For part-time help you can employ a HK permanent resident and the rates are negotiable because there's no minimum wage (apart from that covering FDHs) in HK. The general wage seems to be around $60 per hour.
