My Dh will be terminated next week.

Where can I buy an air ticket for her?

Also, how much should I give for travel and food allowance? I don't understand what it is.

Hi! Nat, if you've hired your maid thru an agency, you could just contact your agent and they can help you with the booking of her air ticket. If not, you can contact any travel agency and tell them that you are booking for a maid because their air ticket is cheaper than ordinary people but you have to provide them with a contract copy. You should book her a ticket that will be valid for 14 days from the date of termination (open dated or one that can be changed) The travel and food allowance is HK$100. This is given on top of her air ticket, her salary and holiday pay, etc. Your employment agent should furnish you with a copy of this form that you can just fill up with her details and the amount that is due to her. Remember to have a copy of the ticket and have her signed on it as your proof. You should also inform the Immigration department of the date you terminated her or you'll be responsible for her and for whatever that she may do or anything that will happen to her. Remember to attach a termination letter with the letter to the immigration.

If you're going to hire a replacement helper, remember to do it within 4 months of terminating the helper or you won't be allowed to transfer the remaining levy payment to your new helper. If you need any help in this or in hiring a new helper, you may contact Mary at 6283 7299.

Hope this helps and Good Luck.

If she is a Filipino, you may buy the e-ticket from website of CEBU Pacific, http://www.cebupacificair.com/index.html . It's convenient and fast.

Hi there, I am terminating my DH as well but heard from my agent that you need to buy them a two week open ticket or else they can ask you to buy another ticket if they decide to stay for the full 14 days. Does anyone know if you can get open tickets from cebu pacific? I tried calling their numbers on numerous occassions, but one was permanently engaged and no one picked up the other line. I also checked the rules for the tickets I can buy online, but they provide only that they may not be valid for other days but didn't specify which dates. Does anyone have a good travel agent I can call to book the ticket through. Help!

Our helper resigned (going to retire) and bought her own ticket, she seems to get a good price. But she is working out her one month notice and it is all very friendly and we don't have any concerns about her.

Legally speaking, I received this advice:

"Upon termination of contract, the helper is entitled of one way ticket back to her country, annual leave payment if applicable, a traveling allowance of HK100 and outstanding salary (up to the last working day), extra payment such as bonus is up to the employer and this is not compulsory."

But, I read on another thread you want to give youe helper short notice. Here is whay my friend did, and the agency said it was more than fair:

She had all the paperwork in order.

She paid her all money owed.

She arranged and paid for a van to move her things.

She arranged and paid for a boarding house for two weeks.

She bought her ticket.

She advised immigration via a termination letter.

She also had a witness at the house in case of any issues. While ths all seems a bit extreme, in her specific case it was really the best idea (and proved to be so). Yes, this all cost more money, but it gave her a huge sense of peace of mind and closure to a very bad situation.

(her new helper is wonderful!)
