I hired my current Filipino helper direct after she finished her contract last August. All I paid for were the contract and visa fees and she did all the waiting at the Immigartion Department(it could take up to a day just waiting for the documents to be processed and having to return again when required by the immigration dept). Unfortunately, she didn't turned out to be what I had hoped for and I have decided to end her contract in February.

When I tried renewing my Indonesian helper's contract recently, the embassy gave me/her a long list of documentation required as 'proof' of employment and the costs of getting all these 'proof' is probably the same as hiring/renewing through an agency. I believe the embassy has some sort of agreement with these agencies that they just make it difficult for employers to renew directly with the helper and have to go through agencies and pay for the fees and they can get a profit. It's bad but that's reality with the Indonesian government. Hope this helps.

"terminated" means the DH did not finish her 2 year contract. That means she has two weeks from the day she was terminated to find a possible new employer to sign new contract. Upon finding a new employer, documents must be processed while DH goes home and waits for the visa to be issued.

I had a previous helper who was terminated, and she did all the paperwork, running around back and forth to consulate, and immigration before returning to philippines to wait for her visa.

This time I hired a terminated helper for my in-laws, and used an agency.

Using an agency turns out to be much easier, and I save money b/c the airfare is included by the agency, as well as the medical. I also save a lot of time. I don't have to set foot out of my house, and all the paperwork, and run around is done by the agency.
