Hi all,

We are thinking of employing a maid. I understand that in HK, they are certain regulation with regards to maid employment, like leave entitlement, off days, etc. Being new in hk, I appreciate it if you could advise me on what to take note while hunting for a maid.

many thanks,

definitely read the web site...start off with minimum wage and pay a bonus based upon their performance. I learned the hard way...treat them like and employee...not family. Don't get too comfortable...they are employees...you are the boss. Be clear on your directions write them down in the beginning and or on going if you choose to do so. They use simple english so clarification is always important...don't take "yes" as "yes I understand" sometimes, it's "yes" I hear you. Read this web site and pay close attention to what is written here...just remember this could happen to you as you hire your new helper. Hopefully you have a wonderful experience. We thought we were going to be one of the rare cases where we had a helper/employer relationship be a blissful relationship...but I learned the hard way that I was just another pot of gold for someone.

Good luck.
