yes, i'd say something. say something to yourself! stop snooping! you should be happy your maid can use your old things. that's great. as for the cigarettes- i can't believe she's smoking and you don't know. you'd be able to smell it. maybe she's a sunday smoker- in which case it wouldn't affect your kids.
sorry to be blunt!

We know you accidentally saw your old stuff when genuinely looking for the bag,
!!!BUT!!!
You snooped!!!
One of the most deplorable acts to engage upon.
If you suspected she stole or was on drugs and your suspicions were confirmed, well it wasn't snooping cos it was really searching for something you were looking for.
HOWEVER!'
You went on an unwarranted fishing expedition merely to see what you could see, all of which is inadmissible because YOU CAN'T DO THAT!
You must R.E.S.P.EC.T. her right to privacy as an employee, even though she works within your home.

rudeness zalca! u can be polite u know. maybe u didnt understand my post. my issue here is not the smoking but the trust issue. the fact that she lied saying she didnt smoke. seems like u hv a problem and if u tk the trouble to reply posts the least u can do is read them properly.

1.You do not know if she smokes or not
2.You don't know if she took up smoking AFTER she started working for you.
3. If she said "yes ma'am, I have a cigarette every so often on a weekend, when not within the house" you may have not hired her. And like you said, she is excellent, works very hard and v.good
Question is, is not admitting to having a cigarette every once in awhile for fear of not getting a job in the same ballpark as snooping through someone's personal belongings? Now there is a trust issue.....integrity, respect.......
Sorry to be blunt bunny
