New rules with compulsory courses?

Hello,

Does anybody know what these new immigration rules are about? One of my friends came from the mainland to move here with her DH and the maid had to go back to Filippines to have a 2 month course done otherwise they wouldn't give her a HK visa to work here. It's strange because she already worked many years including in HK.

Now my DH is afraid to go to Filippines on holiday and get stuck there!

Thanks for any information.

Try this link from the POEA:

The new rules took effect from December 31, but there was supposed to be a two month amnesty while everyone got sorted out - that is till 1 February. Unfortunately, they rescinded that amnesty, and now no-one over there seems to know what is going on. I was quoted a four week course for a new hire, but this was taken down to a simple test due to previous study. So there is some flexibility.

We contracted a DH two months ago and was told that it would take about 2-4 weeks. The DH still hasn't arrived. Since this new training period has taken effect, the agency keeps stalling us and postponing the DH arrival date. They told us that she had to go to 1 week of training and then the next week they said she was waiting for the certificate. I suspect that she really had to do two weeks of training because it has taken another week to 'wait for the certificate'. Now they are claiming that they are working on her reservation but have still yet to confirm her flight. Is there anything I can do to speed this along?
