My maid is currently serving out her notice and wondered if anyone does a bag search on the last day.
I have trust issues with my maid and not sure whether she would be removing things.

If she was good all the time and doesn't have a grudge against you, she shouldn't do it now. However, If she wants to steal something she'll not keep it untill the very last day but will rather take it now (or already did it).

I had a DH for a short while. She seemed OK & not to type to steal stuff, as it was a first time I terminated a DH, I felt weird searching her bag & so did not do that.
After she left, for the next few days, I found a number of itmes missing from the house. I then realised that she had been stealing stuff.
I have learned my lesson, does not matter how innocent I believe my DH is or how emabarrassed I feel, I will check their bags before they leave.
Better to be safe than sorry! Yes, have a witness who is not a family member.

I dont think that I can do a bag search as their dignity is at stake. Usually, my practice is not to have valuables lying around, at least the few pcs that I wear can be counted at any time.
Can you check whether you have lost anything currently and then keep your valuables safe until she leave?

You should definitely do it for peace of mind. I had witnesses and everything and did a bag search by asking her to open her bags. We were really embarassed to ask and her immediate response was "don't touch". She opened the bag and lifted one or two pieces of clothes and said that it was all clothes. I didn't want to touch anything in case there were intimate items in there. Since then we have been missing a whole bunch of small items including a necklace and a silver box full of my husband's cufflinks bizarrely! These items were everyday wear and not seriously valuable and it wouldn't make sense to have to lock them up everyday. I'm hoping we've misplaced them somehow (unlikely as they were kept in a drawer in our bathroom), but it's been months and they haven't turned up anywhere else. I can't stop wishing that I could turn back time and do a through check for peace of mind.

AAll DH's are informed by their agencies, etc that they will be bag searched by their employers when they leave. They are made well aware of that in advance. So, they normally expect their employers to search their stuff.
