As we are going back to UK for a month for holiday, we decided to give our helper her leave as well even though she has been working for us for less than a year. we plan to give her one month leave as we will be in UK for a month even though she is only entitled to 2 weeks in 2 years. do we need to inform immigration about this? i was told that there is a certain period of time that she must return to hong kong otherwise she will be refused entry to hong kong. is that true? if that is, what is the allowed period of time that she can leave hong kong? would really appreciate your info. thanks.

Yes, you do have to write a letter to inform Immigration department about your period of time that you give to your helper for her leave. Otherwise she may refuse to coma back to Hong Kong.

Just give the letter in advance to your helper when she is going in her leave, with attention to Immigration Department and stated with period of time that you may give to your helper.
Immigration officer may or may not call you when the maid arrives in Hong Kong by showing your supporting letter, regarding her employment with you.
And the letter that you gave it to your helper, it will support her while she get an interview by Hong Kong Immigration airport, cause she may have a lot of question about her arriving and her status with her employment.
