Age discrimination is illegal in HK.

It will take some time for you to find and process a new helper, so you will be without a helper for a while, poor dog!!!

Why don’t you show some compassion and allow her to stay at least until you have found a replacement. You will still have to let her go before you can process a new helper, but think of that poor dog!!.

I suspect that she means that it will give her more time to register with agencies, use word of mouth contacts etc. to set up some interviews. She would attend interviews on Sundays (or whenever her day off is), or midweek with your permission.

Only you can judge whether or not you can trust her. If you have a reason to think that she would steal, abuse your dog, damage your property etc, then you are within your rights to pay her in lieu of notice. If you trust her, then it certainly will make it easier for her to find another employer if she has more time in which to do so.

Your obligation is to inform immigration within two weeks, I believe. She must do the same.

Well can away, but, why did you ask the question? You have already found a new helper, like the sound of your own voice perhaps.

Do a search for termination on this forum.

You are 100% in your right to terminate her on the spot, give one month salary instead of notice, and advice immigration.

Just be sure to follow the law, and DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.

From reading the above it is not age discrimination, it is b/c she cannot complete her job.

We had a 60 year old maid (was 56 when started with us) who was amazing and could do everything.

We got a 40ish year old maid, who was incompetent.

Age is not the issue.
