Food vs. allowance

I decided with our new helper to give her food rather than the money but am finding it a bit awkward. For example do I offer to buy white bread just for her as we eat brown? On the days we have steaks how do I phrase it that she can get herself something else ie. cheaper without looking really mean? I'm not sure if I should offer to buy her some stuff just for herself like Philippines products? How do other people handle this pls?

I also provide food. I buy her some extra food every week for the cases like you mentioned. I tell her to cook something for herself from the foods I put in the fridge for her. For example, I make sure that in her own box in the fridge she always has sausages, some cheese and ham. In her freezer box she always has frozen chicken, fish, etc... She knows she can use rice, noodles, eggs, vegetables and other things as much as she needs. So, she doesn't buy food as she is satisfied with such arrangements. If she eats white bread, buy her some, it's not expensive. Otherwise, if she needs some special foods, she can spend a bit of her salary, right?

If you have decided to provide her food rather than giving her the the allowance yet wonder about buying her such things as white bread and don't want her to eat some of the same things as you that it would perhaps be better all round to provide her a food allowance and let her buy her own stuff to avoid problems.

I agree with Moppet, I think you'd be better off giving her a food allowance. Look at it from her point of view - would you like it if someone else decided what food to provide for you? However you phrase it, I'm afraid it does look mean if you're eating steak and you want her to get herself something cheaper. If you don't want to give her the same food as you and your family, give her the money and let her buy her own.
