Hi there,
In the process of getting my first DH and was curious as to how those of you on asiaxpat found your DH. I'm not sure which avenue to pursue, so I thought I'd do a little poll to see how you do it. As I gather, the sources are:
1) agency (feel free to recommend any)
2) asiaxpat's agency
3) ad in dollarsaver or like
4) referral from a friend/ relative/ other DH.
Thanks!

I found mine here on my own on Asiaxpats 3 months ago. I was able to see their picture, years in HK, qualifications, etc. Lined up about 6 for interviews and asked the questions. I am lucky so far, found a great Indonesian DH. I did not go thru an agency

We have at least 500 new helpers register with us each month - and many of the agencies actually come to our site to get candidates... so even if you used an agency its likely the helper was found here...

Just signed contract today with my DH. Selected 5 from asiaxpat site, interviewed them and chose the candidate we thought would best suit our needs. I ended up going through an agency, be aware that the Philippine Consulate closes at 4pm not 5 as I was told. Also be aware that if you choose an agency, they seem to have different fees for this that and the other, question what you are paying and ring around to various agencies before chosing one if you want to use their services. I was very pleased with the service I received today, however as I have just started the process of getting my DH here today, I can't comment any further on efficiency etc. Good luck.

I got mine from Ready maid agency. I had to pay them HK$2700 in total. It was cruel becasue they had to ask my maid to pay them HK$300K after she got an offer from us. I've exchanged emails with Evelyn of Asiaxpat but she seems to very busy and would not get email replies from her. Sorry Ed, but this is the truth. I know you are going to erase this.

Thanks - will look into this....
We opened our agency for exactly the reason you mention - pure exploitation of helpers by these total scumbags... no better, parasites who prey on the weak... you can quote me on that.... We charge the helpers nothing if we place them

When I came to HK last Dec, I got my first DH from an agency ACJ which is supposedly highly recommended by expats. Terminated her in one month as she stole from us. ACJ promised to give us a replacement but we were not happy with the quality. We got our current one through asiaxpat.com who has good employer reference. She has turned out to be very good. On hindsight, we could have saved on the $3500 agency fee we paid if we had known of this website earlier! Good luck in your search!

I hired TWO helpers in the last 6 months from Asia expat. But Evelyn is indeed too busy, found the DH on here, but processed on our own for one, and for the other, we used Prime Services.

Hi Ed
I disagree with your comment about charging nothing for the helper to register. I have looked on the site and it costs them or the person registering them $180 for 3 months????
