Laundry for DH

Had a question and will welcome suggestions. My helper does use up a lot of her clothes and seems particular about washing her bedsheets very often, may be sometimes more than once a week (which is alright with me, actually). I have given her a set of 2-3 bedlinens and duvet cover and dont mind her using my machine but since i have a small laundry and have enough clothes from my family to wash, can i suggest sending her out 3-4 hours say 2 times a week to wash her clothes. I respect the fact that she wants fresh linens and feel that allowing her to wash out, will give her the hygiene she requires (which i do appreciate) and also help me save some money on hot water, electricity and dryer cycles.I will be happy to pay her like HKD 40 each time she goes out to cover for travel and wash etc. Is that alright?

Interesting question. I always assumed that it was cheaper to do the laundry at home but you might have a point that it is cheaper to send it out given the high cost of electricity here and the small, inefficient machines at home.


I think asking your helper to go out is fine, but I am not sure if HK$40 will cover the cost of laundry. I wouldn't reimburse her for travel though since there should be laundries in your immediate area within walking distance.

i get it, especially if your machine is small and constantly going with your own family. Why not send out all the household sheets to the laundry, then its less "yours and ours"? Just a thought. But ultimately she is your employee and if you want to do that, then do so. I have heard of worse things!

If you want to pay for her to go to the laundry to do her bed linen etc and are happy to provide her with the time off and cover the costs then it is absolutely up too you. You don’t need approval or permission from anyone to do this SSN.
