Hi, my DH is about to start and I just had a few last minute questions:
1)How do DH's usually preferred to be paid? Cash, cheque, etc.
2)Do you normally pay for the DH's mobile phone calls? ie. Provide her with a prepaid card?
3) How do you sort out her transportation expenses when "on duty" for running errands, etc? Give her $XX for her octopus card or just pay as you go?
4) If DH is out with you helping you run errands and you stop for lunch, do you usually offer to have her eat lunch with you or just ask her to meet you after you've ate your lunch (she can go find her own place for lunch?)
Thanks for your input!

Hi, based on my experiences as a DH...
1. In my first three months, my employer paid me cash. Then later helped me to have a BOC account. After I got the bankbook and ATM card she just paid me through check, or directly deposited the money in my bank account.
2. Usually no, but this will depend on the situation. If your helper will travel always with your kid and you need to call her to check every now and then, then you need to contribute on her mobile prepaid card.
3. If she'll travel with you or with your kids, certainly you have to pay for her MTR ticket or bus fare. If its her day off, she must pay for her own travel expenses.
My employer provided me an octopus card (100HKD/week),to be used officially, during my day off I am using my own octopus card.
4. Usually, my employer let me eat with her or with the whole family when we're stuck outside during lunch or dinner time.
hope this will help. Good luck!

1) we pay our helper cash but make sure he signs for it each month in a little book.
2)no we don't pay their mobile phone bill.'
3)if he has to run an errand (very rare) we give bus fare or taxi money just for the day.
4)My helper never comes out with us.

Thanks for your input. Gives me an idea of how things work. Of course, I'll also get some input from my helper...

1. Get paid in cash
2. No. I pay for my cell phone bills although sometimes when all of us will be out ( just the gardener around) I would forward my boss's calls to my cell phone ( with her permission, this way I could screen calls that could wait or needs to be returned ASAP- or as soon as she gets in the car )
3. If it is going to be an everyday errand, octupos card is convenient though I see no reason why pay as you go won't work.
4. a.Depends where you are. Will there be other places where she could have her lunch? how long lunch break will be and will there be enough time for her to make it to the meeting place?
4. b. Will she be new in HK? If yes I think though she may feel shy, it's better she stays with you.
4. c. Best decide when it happens. You may like her enough to have lunch with ( as opposed to having lunch alone) and this is also a good chance to get to know her better. Know her better in the sense that she may feel a bit more comfy to ask questions about work in this more " informal" setting than at work. Also to now her as a person other than a helper. It's really interesting how " casual" talk could turn into a very engaging one.
But if you rather be on your own, by all means let her go on her own. She may like the idea of having that little time to look around. As I do when we travel, though most time we will do the shopping ... we explore on our own and meet up for coffee or lunch before heading back home.
