Salary Increase

We pay the minimum salary (HK$ 3,320) to our helper at this moment, which signed last April or May. One year has passed with her. It is time to review it, I think. Does anyone advise me how to review the salary and any points we should examine/review/look at. Apart from Salary, our helper eats whatever food we have at home, although we buy food in the expensive shops. In addition, she may go out if she finish her work. She has one day off per week. She seems enjoying to work for us.

I give the following:

Good worker, meet your expectations - 7%, based on the fact that once you give 10% or more, then DH will always expect similar % for subsequent yrs. Also you provide good food and extra time off.


Average - 5%

I would agree that the most basic question too yourself should be, does she make your life easier?

The rest all depends on you and your family and what is important to you.

For instance childcare for some is the important thing so the fact they weren’t so hot at cooking wouldn’t be a big deal so long as the kids where happy and well cared for.

For others it may be pets or housekeeping if that’s there main priority.


Be careful not too expect too much from your DH in terms of excelling at everything or you could be come disappointed. After all if we want top-notch chefs, nanny’s etc we would need to pay for someone trained in the specific area.


If you feel happy with how things have been going this is the best guide you can use, after all everyone is different in what they need want from there helper so advise would be more specific to the posters needs than maybe yours.
