I wouldn't either- no extra pay and no change to regular working hours, unless you want them to babysit way past midnight- no point in having a tired/ inefficient DH around your home the next day. I might give the DH money for a taxi home if I asked them to stay past 11pm or so...

I wouldn't if it's within "working hours". If it's beyond working hours (past 10pm if DH starts at 10am) then I would pay extra. It's the same as working at the office (except management of course), wherein overtime pay is given if work is required beyong normal working hours.

We have live-out. No we don't pay her extra, as if she lived with us she would be around for the child care. We do call a taxi and pay for it.

I guess the difference between a live in and live out in this situation is whether they can actually sleep during this time.
I know when we had a live in helper she often 'babysat' the kids. But in reality she was asleep for most of it but had the baby monitor by her side in case they woke up or there was a problem. This is no different to if we were asleep in the house.
I assume if she is a live out, she may need to stay awake on the couch until you get home and if it is quite late could make her tired the next day. Not sure I would pay her more but I would probably give her an extra hour or so the following day if possible. That is not always possible though obviously.

Hi there, sorry to interrupt. Where can I get a live out DH? Anyone can recommend me? OR a part-time. Tks for your help.

If you have agreed hours with her and her salary then any extra hours she does need to be paid for.
If not then it is open for you to discuss it with them and work something out.

mangotango, why do you have to spend "a hell of a lot more" to have a full-time helper? It's actually cheaper to have a full-time helper than to pay a part-timer HK$60/hr for 20 hours a week. If you are adding the cost of the boarding house and transportation, that money is not going to your helper, and you probably save by not having to give up a bedroom in your flat.
