Helper wants more money

I am in the process of hiring a full time helper. We have offered well above the mw and she has asked me several times for more money for food allowance, ferry tickets for day off, and live out allowance. Is this something I should be wary of or is it a case of normal practice? I also just found out she pulled out of a contract because she preferred to work for me, whilst it's good for me I had no idea she had already signed on for someone else.Does anyone else have concerns like this before hiring?

Sounds like to me she's trying you out to see how far she can get. A resounding NO would ne nice, but be careful b/c she's already left one employer in the lurch and she could just as easily walk out on you. Live-out allowance? Regardless of whether it's your choice or hers be warned that unless you have express permission from Immigration for her not to live in your home (assuming she's here on a FDH visa) then it's illegal for her to live out.

Thanks for all your advice. My husband and I have decided at the last minute not to hire her, too many things didn't add up. So now she has been calling crying, she has to go back to the Phillipnes b/c her visa is up on Monday and without our contract she can't get an extension. Can helpers ask immigration for an extension without a contract? Also that immigration won't accept her again as she has already cancelled a contract before she came to us....hiring a helper is is not as easy as I thought.

She told my husband that she had to leave the country by 9am Monday but she told me she has an appointment with immigration on the same afternoon. Also as her contract was termintaed due to family moving o/s so she is entitled to 2 week extension which she failed to tell us so basically was using worse case scenario to get us to sign her. I explained this entitlement to her but she of course new this. The extra money was for ferry tickets on day off, and food allowance which we had already included in pay and we advised her of this. Anyway it's over now so going to be far more cautious next time. thx for your replies.
