Is there such a thing as Chinese DH? I would like an almost full time helper, but not looking for someone to move in and don't want to pay for a live-out helper. I am from the states and still slightly apprehensive of the whole idea.

Yes, with a HK resident (could be local Chinese or a long-term resident from another country) you are not bound by the must-live-in rule. The Labour Dept maintains a database of local residents who have registered with it for DH work. Personally I think there are less hassles with hiring a local than there are with a F/T live-in foreign DH. However, for some people who need a F/T helper tere isn't always the luxury of choice. Good luck.

You can certainly have a Chinese DH but you will have to pay for them! Usual rates are by the hour although they will of course take into account blocks of hours.
For live in that would be difficult. Local domestic helpers are not bound by the same rules as FDH so would still expect to be paid a lot more. Most would prefer to live in their own homes.
