Of the 15+ yrs that I've had DHs this is my first time to have a problem. I have always paid wages in cash and have them sign a simple but clear receipt. I guess I am not lucky this time and my current DH, who's been with me for a yr, refuses to sign. I contacted the agency and they advised me to pay her by cheque. Now my helper says she will not take is as she doesnt want me to write her name on it - she wants a cash chq. I havent paid her yet and I am sure the longer its delayed the worse it is for me. what should I do now?
Any input would be highly appreciated.thanks.

What's the problem with giving her a check? If you do not want to do the check, simply tell her if she will not sign for the payment, she will not get paid. You are in charge, not her

I agree, either she signs or she doesn't get paid, i would write to or contact immigration advising them of the situation in case your helper decides to cause problems for you.

have you tried to ask her WHY she doesn't want to sign when you pay her in cash?

I've always insisted on doing an automatic transfer to their bank account (and made one of them open a bank acct - we paid the fees). For one, its much much more convenient for me (I work FT and can do online) and I also believe getting them comfortable with using the banking system is a good thing for anyone.
