The Jockey Club is the only organization permitted to offer gambling in HK... all other forms of gambling are illegal

I don't think she has to, ( declare the conviction for visa purposes) unless they have to travel overseas.

It is difficult to find loyal and good helper, and I assume she did her gambling on her day off and did not affect her work ( aside from the day/s she needs to appear in court/police station). She probably has learned her lesson and will straighten up. Your friend should re-hire her base on the premise that LOYALTY ( and trust) takes years to build and are priceless. But they should be clear that IF and WHEN she will have trouble with the law anent her gambling or whatever reason, they will let her go. No Ifs', no buts'.

Iso-no-awabi,

I do not think she will be denied a visa. I have read many cases of helpers caught, convicted and fined for gambling around the Statue Square etc during Sundays and Public holidays but none were refused employment visa.

And now that we are at it, my co-worker once were caught and fined HK450.00 for jay-walking, and I know of someone for littering and both were able to renew their employment.

I would think that if they considered it a real problem tha they could cancel her visa now and ask her to leave HK not wai for her to renew so i wouldn't worry too much. Also you could get a copy of her forms and check if there is any request about criminal convictions on it.

agree with moppet, if this will affect her working visa, they should already have deported her, or asked her to leave HK immediately.
