My helper's young cousin has just arrived from the Phillipines a few months ago to work as a helper. She doesn't seem to have paperwork from the agency that placed her. She contacts my helper to tell her she is still working past midnight. She is only 'allowed' to eat once a day and has been hit and generally bullied. I've suggested logging everything and getting in touch with a support network - she doesn't necessarily get time off each week. Question is where should she turn - don't suggest the police, she wants advice from people who deal with this sort of situation and doesn't want to return to the Phillipines to start the application again. Many thanks

Shona, the only thing she can do is leave and find another job and report the people concerned to prevent others from being treated the same way. She should not stay in such an abusive situation as it is un likely to change and if anything it could get worse. She needs to leave ASAP despite the difficulties in may involve and find a nice family to work for.

Shona ask her to write down all the things to a paper and send it to immigration, she should give her full name, ID card, passport number, and the address of her employer, then when she go process for a new visa if she can be able to find a new employer later on, immigration will not ask her to leave Hong Kong. I know many cases like this. I am sure labour department will be of help to her too.
