Helper went back for emergency leave recently. Documented details and had her sign letter to say that if she doesn't come back on xx date, a release letter will be sent to Immigration the following day.
She called tonight to say she missed her flight back to HK!!!! She claims she will be returning tomorrow morning. As I know, I bought her a ticket that can only be changed before departing HK. This means that she may have had to pay a surcharge for her ticket home tomorrow. If she does return, does she have a right to claim this surcharge from me? Doesn't seem that fair!
My original letter stated that the dates of the ticket were mutually agreed by both parties (employer and employee).
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Polite employer, as it was leave you did not need to pay for the ticket at all so if she missed her flight any extra cost is down to her. As with kids the only way people learn responsibility is if they have to deal with the result of their actions.

Thanks for the responses. I'm so cynical, it's terrible, but I have been burnt before, so feel my feelings are justified.
Her flight was 6pm and she didn't call me until 10:15pm to say she missed the flight. Weird?
Asked her why she left it so late to call, she replied, she doesn't have a cellphone. Weird, as I always see her charging hers, when she's in HK. Fine, she doesn't want to use it - what happened to payphones in Manila?
She's back. Came back with no apologies, NOTHING. Asked why she was late, she said she arrived at airport at 5:15pm and they wouldn't let her check-in, blah blah, had to do her OEC, blah blah. Still no apologies!
I feel I've been fair in all aspects with her and my previous helper. I think in some ways too fair, that they feel I'm a doormat! Anyone want to work for a doormat????
