I have been trying to hire a DH myself for a few weeks now (as have had poor experiences with local agencies).
Aside form DH not showing up, asked for too much $$, recently experienced the DH broke her promise.
A short version of my story....
I hired a maid from Indo (4 years experiences in Sing) through a local agency when I was 6 months pregnant. It took her nearly 5 months to arrive my home. Baby was already 2 months old. She turned out to be a 'day dreamer' with no commen sense. e.g. not closing window nor testing water when taking baby to bath... let the gas on when she does not know how to operate the gas dove... and many many dangerous act plus not remembering the daily briefing & trainig I conducted. I have to ask for no pay leave from work and stay home looking after baby & her.
Eventually after a few weeks searching & interviewing, I found a maid called Sita Gurung from this site. Everything went well & she promised to bring a contract for me to sign this Sunday.
But she sent me a sms today saying she s been employed adready. I am very angry as she called me a few times after the interview to make sure I promise I will hire her, I am so shock that she could break her promise to my 3 months old baby son just like that.
Now I have to do interviews all over again and can't go bake to work.
How could I avoid this to happen again? and anyone could help me with my situation?

Dear Ed,
Although I know you cannot vouch for the maids posted on asiaxpat, I like to share with you some of my experiences. I called 4 indonesian maids posted on asiaxpat. Only one turned up; 1 was not available when I called; I left a message with her friend and I called again the next day: same story. The other 2 promised to come for an interview but never turned up nor even had the courtesy of ringing to tell me she cannot make it. This was after my calling them the same day to confirm the appointment and having taken some time off work to meet them. When I called the maids up to enquire, they nonchanantly said "not interested anymore" and "signed contract already". Whilst, I do not favour the agencies exploiting the maids, because I do not have the time to source, play and wait for them, I am seeking the help of an agency.

Dear Tolmira,
I completely agree wth u as i ve also had the same experience as yours..
Just need to know if its advisable to hire a full time DH fm Hkg directly or should I use agency services for the same. i ve found a helper who knows all the procedues of signing the contract and doesnt want to pay the agency their fees. She seems quite good and i ve also spoken wth her previous employer and got a v gd response about her credentials.
what should i do?..

We didn’t intend to bring this up because it is painful and heartbreaking. However, realizing that we’re not the only victim, we think it is better to share our experience.
We hired the SAME person, i.e. Sita GuXXng, from this site. She gave us “yes & no” TWICE (so indecisive, but she blamed her previous employer for that) & a yes later. As we were urgently seeking for one, we decided to hire her. We paid for agency fee (as we are working parents, wanted to save time for the procedures.) & medical check. She came to our home on Day 1 evening, unwell on Day 4 (when she’s back home after Sunday holiday, she was unwell and claimed it was ALL because she had to wake up much much earlier than before in order to cope with our routine, i.e. wake up at 6:30 am.), consulted a doctor on Day 5 (cost us $170), told us she couldn’t take any more on Day 7 morning, GONE on Day 7, 9:15pm.
Also, on Sunday, we told her to come back before 9pm but she arrived at 9:20. Then, after spending ten minutes in her room, she walked straight to take a bath without ASKING us (she did tell us when she already took the clothes & reached the bathroom), leaving my daughter knocking at the door for wee wee, and us too shocked to react.
Anyway we are relieved that she’s gone. But $3000 was spent for hiring her for 7 days. A lesson is learned, quite expensive one though.
