Processing helpers from the Philippines

ORIGINAL POST

Is this too much of a hassle to do on your own own or doable. We are hopeful of hiring a helper currently in H.K but returning home owing to her visa running out. How long does it take to do the paper work? Any help appreciated.

hi, it's almost 30 to 45 days, but sometimes it's take longer because of the new requirements of the agency.

Thanks Honessy and GisaJob for your help here and replying to my post. This sounds like way too much hassle and we would be better off finding someone else who is already here. We really did like the lady but she was the first and only helper we interviewed.

I think the first part of Gisajob's reply referred to the Philippine Consulate not the Immigration Department. I just did it and remembered to go in person if you are doing it yourself, don't let your helper to do it herself as the guy at counter 16 needs to talk to you in person.

If you don't want to pay the $212 notorial fee you can get the undertaking notorised outside the consulate - the guy at counter 16 can give you a list of Home Affair Department addresses that you can go to and it is free. You can have your helper to do this as you don't need to to this in person.

If you have lots of time then you can do it byyourself but if you are a busy person let the Agency do it for you, only you have to be very careful I have a very traumatic experience with one of this Agency, my sis in law hired our helper sister from the Philippines last Oct but untill still waiting for her to come here.My sister already provide everything that they need to Consulate and ID but I just dont know whats is this Agency doing.

i have done it myself. (i am a dh) i got the contract from the IM then got it verified by the consulate with the other requierments. my boss then took my papers and passed them to IM.

i went to php (visa ran out) waited exactly 1 month. but some takes longer. my boss then sent me my visa, contract and ticket to my php adress.

Has anyone tried calling the Immigration Department within the first 4 weeks of application to check the status?

tip:

never call IM to check the status.my last boss did that regularly and it took TWO MONTHS for my visa to be ready.. the more queries you have the more youll be bumped to the bottom.

i have had 2 bosses who processed with out an agency. the first one kept on calling and and asking and they took 2 months. the next one didnt bother to ask and it took exactly 30 days. and i was bacl here after 5weeks of application.

same thing happens to all dh's i know. more questions, longer time.

I have a friend who took her two kids to the Immigration Department to show that she needs the helper urgently, but ended up it still take a while...

Once the visa is accepted/ready and we send everything to our helper in the PH, how long can we expect before she is here?

A FDH (I'll call her "008") working for a very close relative of mine wanted her cousin to come to HK and when she realized I was looking for a DH, she highly recommended her cousin saying she (008) will be the one to process the papers etc.etc. and since it's a direct hire I need not pay anything. My relative pointed out 008 is really good in her work so I trusted her recommendation but when I agreed to accept her offer to hire her cousin, she eventually said it was better to go through an agency which I also didn't object as I was used to hiring from agencies in the past and also I was concerned the process would have taken up too much of her time although my relative didn't mind. Anyway, I paid approximately $3,500 to $4,000 for the service and that was about nearly 4 years ago. Everything was fine and I am pleased with my helper and I will be signing her again for the 3rd contract in a few months' time. I gave sufficient present(s) to 008 and her husband who is also in HK working as a driver in appreciation for the introduction. Just lately, I find out 008 is pesterly my helper for an unbelievable favour and some money-related matter. She started telling me she had repaid all that 008 claimed she need to give in return for 008's favour in introducing her to me - like gifts, some money and the agency fee??? and that's when I said I already paid for the agency fee. Thinking back, 008 must be getting money from both sides as the agency was also introduced by her.

Since we are both grateful for 008's introduction, we just let this matter stay as it's already in the past and comfort ourselves as our rewards to her although her didn't take it in a nice and decent way.

Now, my question is: As there's a shadow of a doubt - could the agency be taking fees from both sides and really not 008's greed..........please comment!!

Sorry scottsue

Just realised I put in my own question instead of giving you an answer to your thread........ I think it's always better to go through an agency as they have the man-power to see things through and you are protected in some ways. Unless the DH herself is in HK and has the time and experience to do everything herself and you can trust her, then why not let her process as it will definitely save you money.

As to the time for processing, it depends (about 4 weeks) but you can always write a letter to rush things up a bit stating your present difficulties and the urgent need of a helper.

We just sent the visa, air ticket etc today, to the helper in the PH. How long will it take now for the medical check and POEA (exit visa) she has to do?

We've just done this process too - it was not too bad - our helper is about to return to the Philippines to wait for the visa....should I ask her to get a medical done in Hong Kong or wait and have one in the Philippines? Any concerns re validity of medicals carried out in the Philippines?

Thanks in advance for any answers.
