Hi All,

I ve recently hired a DH about 2 weeks back..she seems quite nice and efficient and takes gd care of my son..but today she gave me termination letter stating PERSONAL REASON. When i asked she started crying and said that her younger sister back in Phil is pregnant and thats y she wants to leave..then i asked her if she had any other problem here at work..she said that she didnt like the food (we r Indian) and that she vomited twice in the night..

so i told her that we ll give her food allowance so she can eat whatever she likes.and told her to talk to her sister over the phone and think about her decison once more.we ve already told her that we ll be giving a bonus salary after a yr..

i dont know what to do..i was hoping to start work soon and leave my 3 yr old son under her care..now in a dilemma?..if she still wants to go is she entitled to the air tickets or no..

Thanx v much for all the advice..

Hi Saikunga,

thanx for the reply..

well she's been here in Hkg for last 4 yrs now..was earlier working for a Chinese family n finished her 4 yr contract..so she's not new..she finally told me that her bathroom doesnt have a water heater (i had told her to use hot water fm our bathroom n provided her wth a bucket ) Another reason was that i made her wash some of my kids clothes(delicate ones) wth hand which she doesnt want to do..i had already told her this during her interview n she had agreed but God knows what happened now?..

we ve given her so much comfort n promised her a bonus still she reacted to such small issues..i mean she could ve discussed it wth me n if i didnt agree then would have given the notice rt?..

anyways i ve no choice but to find another one now..

Its probably better to find another one....this is the period when infact they have to prove themselves and if she already has issues with such small things such as washing kids clothes then u might have more surprises in store....

saikunga is right with being too generous too fast, they take it as a sign of u being too needy and take advantage of that fact.

Hi,

Need to know that since my maid worked for me for only 2 weeks n gave me a mth's notice for no reason what are our obligations considering that this is a notice given by our maid. It seems to be a planned move i.e taking our employment to get the ticket home or just a months extension here in hkg. No issues with clearing whatever is our obligation but in a scenario where she has let down our trust in such a dramatic way it does feel bad. Do I need to pay for her ticket home if she has given a notice in just a couple of weeks, what about the expense I will meet (agency charges, etc) for hiring someone else. what about the emotional stress she has caused. Do the rules here factor that in and see the employers side as well?

thanx v much.
