Advice needed

We are in the process of bringing our helper from Singapore to HK (she is currently in the philippines). Visa application has gone in but may still be a few weeks. Our helper is really unhappy in the philippines.

We have been told by our agency that we can bring her in for 2 weeks but she would then have to leave at the end of this period of time. Can we exit her to say macau and then get her to re-enter for another 2 weeks? Or will this jeopardise our visa application. I have tried asking the agency but they don't seem to understand my question.

Jackie1973, the last people I would trust for this advice would be an agency. If you call immigration, they should give you better advice.

In my experience, if you write a letter, make an appointment and present it yourself, they are likely to pay more attention. We have just employed a new DH, they were dragging their heels on her visa. I had booked her a flight home just after she was due to start, but obviously, if she left the country before vher visa was finalised she may not get back in. She was keen to get home as 2 of her children's birthdays are in the next few weeks. I called immigration, went into present a letter and the visa was processed 15 minutes later.

Thats incredibly quick 15 minutes. We are currently using the agency but I assume it may be much quicker for us if we personally delivered the letter and set an appointment with immigration rather than rely on the agency to do it for us.

The advice does not sound right. 2 weeks sounds more like a tourist visa than anything else. Either way, if she doesn't have her proper visa, she is working illegally.

when we hired our DH, we waited the recommended time fearing that any follow up would delay the application. in the end, we called up and the immigration officer was very nice and said we were missing information (not that they bothered to ask us for it). we also had a very good reason for urgently having the DH...so if you are close to the end of the processing time, it might help to call

I have since checked the immigration website and two weeks is the tourist visa which means she would'nt be able to work, so don't think thats going to help.

The agency submitted our forms two weeks ago but we don't even have the vca number yet, apparently they just keep telling us to wait - very frustrating. We can't submit an expediate letter until we get the number.

Jackie, I should clarify that when I said that our visa was 'processed' within 15 minutes, I meant 'approved'. I guess I thought that it was done and dusted because my job was done at that stage. My helper then had to go to the Philippine Consulate and return to Immigration (with a $400 cheque from me) a couple of days later.
