We pay our local Chinese driver $11,500 a month plus MPF and give him one month's salary as a bonus every year for CNY. He works 5 days a week, from 8am to 7pm. He's a good driver and we have raised his salary a couple of times in the 18 months he has been working for us.
He now wants another raise, as he says that other drivers get at least $12K a month plus 2 months' salary as an annual bonus. I would appreciate it if anyone could indicate what the going rate is now? Also, do most drivers work 6 days instead of 5?
6 days a week work? definitely!...2 mos. bonus ev'ry cny? not necessary.. according to the law, 13 month pay only plus bonus from you, some call it" lai see ". ( e.g. i receive hk$ 2,000 from my boss) this is what i get ev'ry cny. but if he works for you for many years let say 10yrs. he deserves a higher salary and 2mos or even 3mos bonus( but there's no law regarding this) it's up to you actually for his loyalty...... i tell you this, my boss have a driver and a butler at the same time for almost 20 yrs. now and his salary is HK$35,000...it's true, so imagine the bonus...hope this help.

Thanks for the replies. Labber, could I ask if you're a non-local driver e.g. Filipino? Do the local drivers you know normally earn/expect more?
yes im a non local driver but i been working here for almost 16 yrs and i know everywhere here in hongkong and i also do some other works in the office of my boss, yes im a filipino. thanks
as far as i know the local driver are not accepting the salary not below 15,000 a month mostly local driver have a high salary if u will not increase the salary they will leave soon.

I am looking for a driver, preferably local who speaks Cantonese; 6 days as is normal. Will pay 10K plus and the annual bonus. Ready to hire immediately. Must be good with kids.
One riend of mine hired someone for $10k who works 6 days a wk, 10hrs a day severing whole family. This driver was not a family driver before and was out of a job and i think that's why he accepted the offer. She found her by posting an ad in one of the local papers and she gots hundreds of applications. Another friend also hired a local driver recently, one of those v experienced family driver and she pays him $12k plus all the ususal. THis one also works 6 days a wk but on most days he can get off by 5pm. I'm now looking to hire and wonder whether i should hire local or philipino.
