We are shifting from Kowloon side to DB. Now my helper has been living out for some time n she prefers that. I want her to stay with us in Discovery Bay. The reason for living out ... was given that she has always had someone cooking philipina food for her ( she herself doesnt know) ....

Is it fair to ask some helper in DB to cook for my helper ( and I pay the extra cost to her) ???

Need Guidance....

Well, first of all, living out is illegal. And, living out because she wants Filipina food is purely a "privilege" that you have allowed.

She can have filipina food while living in can't she? As long as she's willing to pay for her food costs, I am sure there are helpers around DB who will provide her the meals.

Furthermore, perhaps she should learn to cook herself the food....doesn't she have to cook for you household?

Agreed with meiji. Not that you shouldn't be nice to your helper, but there are limits. Give her a food allowance if you feel you should (a nice and reasonable thing) but let her find her own meals.

I agree. My helper eats our food if she likes it. If not, she makes rice with some chicken and vegetables, fried rice or noodles and bits of veggies and meat. Our previous helper loved eating rice, noodles and eggs.None of my 3 Filipina helpers liked pasta much, but they ate fish, chicken, chinese food and I personally think your helper is exaggerating the importance of her eating habits just to live out. My helpers usually cook their own simple meals in a few minutes. How can she expect to survive if she can't cook her own food!!? Even Western teenagers should know how to cook their own meals. You could also ask the neighbor's helper to come over and teach her to cook. If your helper resists learning to cook for herself, I think it's really because of another reason. She probably has a boyfriend and wants to be with him. If so, maybe your helper needs to find a new job.

I think your DH is just making up an excuse so that she can live out. Her reasons for wanting to live out may be that she has a boyfriend, or that she wants to get sufficient rest, or that she likes more privacy etc. The main thing is to be upfront with her and tell her that you need a live-in DH. I don't think there's any point even mentioning the food thing, because I don't believe it - whoever heard of a DH who couldn't cook for herself?! If you really want her to live in you have to be firm on that point, don't listen to any excuses.
