Helper leaving HK...How does that work?

My helper's passport is expiring in 2 months and she says she has to leave HK. She is hinting she wants to go to the Phillipines. Do I have to send her there? For how long?

not an expert but surely like everywhere else in the world they can get new passport in the Phil consulate. In fact am pretty certain about it - just remembered that mine did last year! then, once she was coming in after a holiday with us the immigration did fluff around to transfer visa or something or other for a while - but am pretty sure she did not leave the country! Even if she does have to - to come in on a new visa or something - Macao or Shenzhen works just fine...

no she won't have to go home to renew her passport just go to the consulate here the same as we did for our new passport (UK one) they should leave her visa page with the corner in tact (they cut the rest off) leaving her visa in tact until it expires then all she will have to do is carry her old passport and new one with her when she travels .

Apparently it is much cheaper to have them issued in the Phils, but they definitely can be done here. Like Moppet said, she can carry her old one when she next has to leave. I've just had mine reissued and thought that I'd have to go to Immigration to get my resident's permit transferred, but they just did something on their computer system when I got back to HK last week and the Immigration Officer said that I only have to take the new one with me from now on. Assume that the same would be done with FDHs.
