Query on 'legal part time domestic helper'

Dont get me wrong.. I m not challenging anyone on this. If ED is also reading this thread, can you enlighten me on this? I saw members putting up threads saying they are looking for legal part time helper and I would like to find one too. However, as far as I know, very very few are legal part time helpers here. Lets forget local hongkongers, of course they are legal. But filipinos, indonesians etc... Every one comes here on a contract (for a particular family) and no matter how long you have been working here as a domestic helper in Hong Kong, you will not get a PR or a long term working visa. So what are we looking for and how much is the chance of getting a real legal part time helper? I can only think of those married to a local and got their PR. Again how many are there? Even those domestic helpers, with a permission from sponsors saying they can work elsewhere, are not allowed to work for other families by law.


I will be looking after my 4 year old from June single handed for quite a while while I go to work every day so I desperately m looking for someone to work for me. But just dont understand the term of 'legal part time helper'. Can anyone help?

GreenValleys, tks very much for your clarification. That was what I wanted to know. This part time helper ad. was not in the site 3 years ago. So I thought the rule has changed if ED made this type of part time help so public. The non-legal option is 'good' but that means I cant buy any accident insurance to cover the part timer.

Everyone? surely you don't assume all filipinos, indonesians etc are here on fdh visas. Any person of any nationality legally entitled to work in hong kong could fill the position.

Aiya, Mayo, I am talking about domestic helpers and not other professions. If a filipino or indoesian etc comes here to work a nurse (I am just talking abt. examples as it is very unlikely for them to get that kind of working permit in Hong Kong, I am afraid), she will be very unlikely to take up part time as domestic helper. Again if your working permit only allows you to be in a certain profession, you shldnt be working differntly, shld u? I am not saying who is right or wrong but just want to find out what types of applicants can fill the position and make sure that I m doing things legally.

Ok I realise now the problem is in your wording or my interpretation of it. Sorry if I was harsh but as a filipino here HK I can tell you after you have been questioned one time too many about your right to swim in swimming pools your patience with assumptions wears a little thin. In any case I suggest you advertise on here on xpat and check the visa page of any applicants. Some people will try to tell they are legally allowed to work when they are in fact not. The obligation is on you to check. There are foreigners here who through marriage or for other reasons are legally entitled to work as part time helpers and they choose to do so. I have a legal part-time helper but it took some work to find her. I tried the agencies but they didn't have any time for me as I live in a village. So I put up an ad in the part-time helper section here. I got many responses but very few were actually legally allowed to work for me. If you do put up an ad I'd ask them straight up if they are a FDH. It seems that they think that if their employer says it is ok to work part-time. But it isn't legal. My two cents.
