My domestic helper of 6months has decided she wants to leave and go home to the Philippines, she wants to leave immediately , which I'm happy to let her do but what are my obligations in terms of severence pay and paying her notice if i allow her to leave immediately? Also as this is the first time it has happened to me does anyone have a check list of things i need to do? thanks

i don't think you are required to pay one month in lieu as she resigned, not you.

I don't think you are required to pay a full months salary, as she will not be working notice, I think you only pay her up to the day she leaves, plus her air fare door to door, plus money for refreshments while she is travelling. I would get her to sign a paper stating the fact she wishes to leave, with dates etc, and sign receipt with a witness that she has received any due days money, and forward a copy of these items to immigration. If you have any insurance for your helper check policy, it may cover hire of a replacement.

She resigns and wants to leave immediately....then she should be the one giving you the one month's pay or you can even it up for the remaining monies you need to pay for her trip back to her country. Having said that, of course as a caring human being, try to find out the reason and if she has problem and if you can afford to, help her or just let her go as she wishes and buy her a one-way ticket home.
