Is tomorrow's holiday the Tuen Ng festival? (which I believe would make it a statutory holiday for helpers)

Yes!

What are the statutory holidays?

A1. An employee is entitled to the following 12 statutory holidays -

the first day of January;

Lunar New Year's Day;

the second day of Lunar New Year;

the third day of Lunar New Year;

Ching Ming Festival;

the first day of May;

Tuen Ng Festival;

the day following the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival;

Chung Yeung Festival;

Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or Christmas Day (at the option of the employer);

the first day of July; and

the first day of October.

But during the first 3 months of employment any of those holidays are not included. It's up to you.

another small point, depends on how you feel about it, we give all "red" calendar days to ours - the ones they are entitled to and not... they dont really have much time off as it is... Quite a lot of people i know, do too...

We d the same as Idsllvn. All the red days off. If we wanted her to work one of these days she would have the option of refusing and we would pay her extra.
