Any way to tell whether your DH applied to Canada?

I was wondering if there are any employers here who had DH in HK worked for you, and then went to Canada.

I have a helper who is on her 3rd contract, and she's been excellent, like family. She has friends and relative who is working in Canada now.

She has never mentioned anything about going to Canada, but lately talks alot about what it's like for her relative and friends, how their work week is just 5 days, short hours, currency rate resulting high salary, and can migrate to Canada...etc.

If she applied, would I know? Would there be any documents she needed from me?

Just my gut feeling.

well, look at it this way - if she did, there is nothing you can do anyway.. I would ask her - so she gives you enough warning and does not leave you in a lurch without a helper....

Agree with ldsllvn, we all move on and try to improve life for ourselves or have dreams.

Obviously you don't want to loose a good helper but i'm sure you also would be happy for her as long as she keeps you up to date with what's going on.

The easiest way to get her to be honest with you is to show support and that you are not angry with her for wanting to do this. After all you cannot prevent her from going but she may be finding it hard to come out and tell you because she knows you will be dissapointed. If she's going to go anyway doing it in the open is best for both of you.

Up to her really, nothing you can do if she wants to go. Like most employees she may apply and see without telling you as she may want to make sure she has a fall back here. I know the worry can be frustrating so maybe you can devise a fall back plan yourself should she suddenly want to go.

Momoftwo, she's gonna need a release /recommendation letter from you stating that she is looking after your children..that is one of the requirement from the Canadian embassy. she need to give this letter when she's picking up her visa...

My first helper went to Canada to work. She was very good with my kids, very independent and treats all of us very well. She's also like part of our family. She told me about her plans to work in Canada as her salary in HK is not good enough to support her family back in Philippines. She asked for a recommendation letter from me. Since she was really good, I'm more than happy to give her a good reference letter.

She din't just leave us right away. She waited until we found a new helper to replace her. NOw that she's working in Canada, she still keeps me updated =)
