Silly question time.. my reading on DH in HK gives the impression that a FDH can only be hired under full time live in conditions as set out in the FDH contract. So who or where do these part time helpers come from? The website I read referred to Local DH - are these DH with PR?? - is there any hours/week that constitutes part-time, are there minimum wages set down or is it only an hourly rate?

Part time helpers are just that, part time helpers. They are usually locals with PR and normally charge by the hour. In theory anyone with PR or dependant visa can perform DH duties part time, but the reality is it is normally locals at the lower end of the pay scale that do this.

I have replied on the thread 'underpaying helpers' that my friend used to just sponsor helpers into HK in the 80's & 90's without any obligations on her part as long as someone she knew asked her to do it (of course within her quota) and also with my disapproval. Guess reading what you have written GreenValleys, it may the the trend then. Some employers are even tempted by the DH themselves to reduce their wages with the condition that they can go out and do part-time. Legal or not - it's still happening!
