I'm 5.5 months pregnant and will have to let go of our helper who comes once every week soon for a live in one to take care of the baby (I have a full time demanding job).

Can anybody give me any advice on how to choose a live-in maid for a baby, and what questions I need to ask during the interview?Any advice is helpful, I have no experience with babies, or live-in maids! Thanks!

- Experience with babies is a plus, but not a must.

- Try to make up questions that force her to think and explain, for example "what would you do if the baby is not sleeping during the nap?". Questions like "do you like kids?" are next to useless.

- You can always have a friend with more experience in management and/or babies interview with you.

- Early childhood is an emotional time for the mother. There's also lack of sleep. You need someone that you can stand to be around when you are not at your best. If you feel the candidate leaves you cold, that's probably not the right person. If you find yourself instinctively responding with smiles and laughs, and get the same back from her, that's a good sign.

- Personally, I think that a helper should be a happy presence in the household. Ours laughs and smiles and gets a little happily excited at the drop of a hat. These behaviors tend to be muted during interviews, but you should still look for them.
