Public holidays for a new helper

I understand that helper is not entitled to time off on public holidays during first 3 months of employment. However i was told that there has been a new ruling and this only applies to the first time helpers in HK and not helpers that already worked here and had to go back to wait for visa.

Any advice will be appreciated.

As I understand it, she is entitled to time off, but she need not get paid for those days.

It applies to all employees in HK, whether on a helper contract or a regular employment contract. Personally I think it's a bit mean to deduct pay for a day - we're not talking about a lot.

I agree with kittycat2. It seems a bit petty to deduct those amounts, especially on a helper salary.

This question comes up so often. She's entitled to the holiday, but unpaid (if you want to). Personally we wouldn't deduct the pay.
