Helper's food?

Hi,

May i please ask what does your helper eat? same food as you?

You see, i cook my own food and i'm not comfortable "serving" it to her as it looks like i'm the one cooking for her. If there is a leftover, then she eats it.

I also buy organic meats and vege so it would cost much is she eats the same. I don't want to sound mean, she can eat and buy what she wants, but she cooks her own food.

If you say you share the same food, it means your helper cooks and you share?

Thanks.

A mix of both. I'm not usually home during the week so helper cooks for wife and family. At weekend if I cook western food for myself then of course helper shares, I know she can't cook food as well as me so I don't actually care! Sometimes the wife will do the same as she knows I can be picky on my food.

Do whatever works for you.

Our helper eats everything we eat and that includes Australian meat. We included food in the contract and don't give an allowance. She does all the cooking as I don't particularly enjoy it, so I'm grateful for that.

Any luxury items, chocolates, soft drink etc., she wishes to have, then she is to buy out of her own money. She never had western food before working for us, so she is loving this new change and luckily for me loves cooking, so I let her have free reign of the cookbooks and kitchen. Our helper only cooks dinner for us, we do our own thing for breakfast and lunch (on weekends when everyone is home).

But each to their own, just ensure you are clear about what your helper is and isn't permitted to have. I suggest you write down what is required. For example, you will cook the meals for your family and she is to prepare her own meals, I probably wouldn't really say she can have the leftovers, because it may come across a bit mean.

Perhaps you could give her a food allowance instead and then it is completely clear cut what is expected. She has her own food and you have your own.

Thanks for your replies. I want to know what others do about food.

I don't have budget with her food, she can buy whatever she wants. I don't have problem with that.

Re leftovers, i mean, if i cook a lot and think that we can't finish it at dinner time, then i tell her she can have that for her dinner too.

We don't supply any food, my helper buys all his own with a food allowance.

It's entirely up to you. If you think you won't eat the leftovers the next day, then that is a lovely gesture to offer if she would like it.

I don't think she would think that you are "serving her" and if it's not every night, then i'm sure she would get the gist of what you are offering.

CD and dadda,

Allowance is a good idea, how much do you give if you don't mind my asking. It might be cheaper in th end as my helper now just buys her coffee, meat, etc etc without a budget. thanks.

$500. We do give the occassional left overs (god that sounds awful), like free drinks we often get, that I know we won't drink, bananas that are turning a bit brown etc, we don't like them like that but my helper does.
