We have given our DH notice after we found we just didn't need full-time help. Her work has been good and we have given her a good reference. She already has another job offer and is going to immigration with the contract tomorrow but she is now asking me to rewrite the termination letter. She wants me to write that we are letting her go for financial reasons rather than we just don't need her.
I'm not prepared to do that but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and what other people would do?
thanks

Cara is right... in the future should you need to apply for a new DH, this will stay with you... i.e. financial reasons... so, your approval from Immigration to hire in the future may be affected.

I agree with jwm. If your letter says you terminated her due to "financial" reasons then she doesnt' have to go home and wait for weeks before she can come back.
You don't have to write that your financial reason is a terrible one. You can just say at this time, you just want to save money and NOT to have a full time DH until a later time.
Next time you hire a DH, you just have to prove to the immigration with your financial proof again (it's required each time anyways), if you meet their requirements, the process will be fine.
They might ask you about last time, you terminated a helper due to Financial Reason, so how about this time? Something like that.... but it certainly doesn't mean you can't hire a DH in the future because of financial reasons.
After all, everyone's financial "status" can change right?

I let my helper go for the exact same reasons as you did. This is what I wrote to the immigration:
____________
I am writing to advise that I have terminated the employment of XXXXXX (Philippine passport number XXXXXXX) from the post of domestic helper under the Domestic Helper Contract No. XXXXXXX due to changes in my family’s personal circumstances.
XXXXX has been employed by me since 26th August 2005. One month’s notice was served to XXXXX on 19th January 2006 meaning her last working day will be 18th February 2006.
During this time XXXXXX proved herself to be honest and trustworthy. She is hardworking, positive, pleasant and is experienced with children. We wish her well for the future.

They accepted the reason, but she did have to go back to the Philippines for a couple of weeks.
