Christmas Holidays 2008

I understand that I can give my helper 21 or 25 Dec this year at my option based on the Statutory holidays for HK.

As 21 was a Sunday and her usual day off, I will give her an extra day off next week. But I will ask her to work on Christmas day for a half day. Is this OK/legal?

You could've asked her to wrok for a whole day on Christmas so that was generous. Today is Dec. 26th and my helper didn't show up and won't answer her phone. what would you do? she's new and it's possible she made a mistake, but i want her to work Jan. 1st, so do you think it's OK in exchange for her taking off today?

yes, I have her part of Xmas day off and part of today off too! I will also give her 1 Jan off (stat holiday).

Your helper didn't show up? Does that mean she doesn't live with you?

I would punish her by cancelling her Jan 1 holiday.

Don't take her excuse that she didn't know that 26 Dec was not a holiday. All maid's know their holdays...

You can't just cancel a statutory holiday but you can refuse to pay her for 26th if you wish
