HI,

I need information, please.

I want to hire a FDH who has terminated her contract early. She has given notice but will happily pay her way out of the contract to move things along quicker.

#1 Can she do the documents for the new contract before leaving Hong Kong?

#2 If not, can I do it or must I use an agency? (How much does that cost?) OR are there folks that will do the documents on her behalf that I can pay?

#3 How long will she have to be gone? I have been told that I can ask for it to be faster....expedited in some way.

#4 Any other suggestions? I am new to this.

THANKS SO MUCH!

Susan

I also hired my helper who had resigned from her previous employment after 7 years so similar situation.

1. From my experience if they resign this appears to be frowned upon and they are sent to the bottom of the queue.

I would suggest you go to an agency (I used Casa in Admiralty -Angie) who I found good. Defo better to use an agency to ensure that you have all the paperwork and it is processed without several return journeys to the Immigration or Consulate.

I went to the agency on the 2nd November and my helper arrived back from the Philippines on the 22nd December - this was with a huge amount of pressure from my husband's PA phoning (who is herself Cantonese so no language barriers) the immigration department constantly and nagging them. The agency told me 8 weeks. I would also suggest when you hear your visa is ready for collection - pressure the agency to get her on a flight quickly it should only take 5 days from the visa to get her here. Agency fees were 2200HKD which included all medical and her flight back from the Philippines.

You can get your husband (presumably signing contract) to write a letter that goes with your application to ask for your application to be fastracked as he travels a lot and you are left alone with the kids or such like. However most western people do this and so I know having the Chinese PA phoning made a huge difference to us.

On the plus side - I waited nearly 3 months as previous employers made her work her notice and actually tried to make her stay on until they had found a new helper - I said if this was the case that I would not proceed - she stood firm and we went to the agency as soon as she was released. If you can get to the agency beforehand is always a good idea so everything is in order and ready to go immediately. My helper is lovely and doing a great job so I am glad I was patient and waited !!

Good luck
